At FAF we strive to find suitable, loving fur-ever homes for Hawaii’s less fortunate dogs, with the intent of keeping them from ever re-entering the shelter system. To achieve that goal, we provide foster homes that are devoted to providing indirect training, as well as lots of personal attention, to help rebuild the trust that is often broken in rescue animals. Through experiential learning with socialization, life skills, leash, and potty training, our goal is to help ease the transition of our dogs into their fur-ever home.
Owning a pet is a privilege and should result in a mutually beneficial relationship. The benefits of pet ownership come with responsibilities.
These include, but are not limited to:
Lifelong care of the pet. This means committing to the relationship for your pet's entire life, not only when it is convenient for you.
Selecting a pet that is suited to your home and lifestyle and avoiding impulsive decisions. If we do not currently have a pet that fits your family, home, or situation, please keep checking in with us and we will work with you. Finding the right home for our dogs is our number one priority and we always strive to get it right the first time.
Recognizing that owning a pet(s) requires an investment of time and money.
Ensuring pets are properly identified (i.e., tags, microchips, or tattoos) and that their registration information in associated databases is kept up-to-date.
Providing preventive (e.g., vaccinations, parasite control) and therapeutic health care for the life of your pet(s) in consultation with, and as recommended by, your veterinarian.
Socialization and appropriate training for your pet(s) to facilitate their well-being and the well-being of other animals and people.
Providing exercise and mental stimulation appropriate to your pet(s)' age, breed, and health status.

Fill out the Adoption Application. (Foster families looking to adopt are given priority once a foster dog is available)
Upon receipt, we will process the application within the next 3-5 business days. You will receive an email with instructions to schedule an initial phone Q&A consultation.
Next, a virtual in-home tour will be scheduled to go over our policies and procedures of the trial period (up to 7 days where your potential pup will be in your care to determine if it is a good fit for your family). Trial periods must be scheduled within 5 days of confirming transfer or we will need to move on to the next potential family.
Lastly, our coordinator will consult with you to see if we should proceed with an adoption. If so, adoption paperwork will be emailed and signed virtually, and the adoption fee can be paid via our website. Adoptions are $300 and include spay/neuter, microchip, initial vaccination, deworming or parasitic and heartworm (6mo and over) testing, and preventative medications.
* Off island adoptions are considered on a case by case basis only and require families to participate in additional steps to complete process.
Note: These steps are subject to change depending on each individual situation, but are generally how the adoption process goes. Our goal through this process is to find the right match for both pups and people, which might require additional meetings at the discretion of the adoption coordinator.
Please read carefully before filling out the forms. Waivers are ONLY to be filled out once an in-home trial period has been set. Mahalo!
